Resurgent Daniil Medvedev Wins Maiden Title in Nearly 30 Months
Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been earned on hard courts
A comeback Medvedev won his maiden trophy for over two years with success over Corentin Moutet in the competition championship match.
Medvedev, a former number one, has endured a difficult season, achieving just a single victory at the Grand Slams and undergoing a setback at the American major.
Medvedev's inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his service game in particular - led to him falling of the world's top 10 and eventually parting ways with former trainer Cervara.
Presently collaborating with his coach and Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily advanced in the past month - peaking in a hard-fought three-set triumph over Frenchman Moutet.
This represents his initial title after the Italian tournament and first on a hard surface after March of the previous year.
Victory also indicates the Russian has won twenty-one championships at 21 distinct competitions.
"For the first time I am participating in a tournament with my both daughters simultaneously, so to secure a championship is especially meaningful," said world number 14 Medvedev.
"This victory is in honour of my second daughter my daughter, because the maiden victory I got when my child my daughter was delivered was for her."
Medvedev, the past champion, had been defeated in his previous six finals, featuring in that event in the past months.
His counter-punching play style and recurring reactions on the tennis court had caused observers to wonder if his capacity to compete at the elite level was concluded.
But the athlete has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, attempting to advance forward and perform positively, backed up by an improved serving game.
The champion came back from a break down in the opening set against the difficult Frenchman, winning 4 of the concluding five points to take the lead.
Both players swapped service breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, bidding for his first tour championship, took control to push for a decider.
Moutet rescued 4 early-game chances in a close final set before Medvedev broke to 15 to close out the victory.
Appropriately, he earned victory with a rally at the net area, with Moutet failing to handle a volley after over two and a half hours.
